Visitors Flock Back to Downtown Sacramento in Q2 2021

(August 10, 2021) – Second Quarter data shows favorable recovery for downtown Sacramento.

Downtown Sacramento attracted visitors across the district in Q2 2021 according to a new investment activity snapshot released today by the Downtown Sacramento Partnership. With a 58% increase in visitor traffic in Q2 2021 compared to the previous quarter and a 212% increase in visitor traffic compared to the previous year, downtown Sacramento leads the region’s recovery and continues to attract visitors to the urban core.

Key takeaways from Q2:

  • 2.84 million visitors came to downtown Sacramento in Q2 2021 compared to 1.8 million in Q1.
  • The completion of The Exchange Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, project has increased hotel room inventory by 100 rooms, bringing the total hotel rooms completed since 2015 to 455. The hotel is expected to open its doors September 2021.
  • The number of residential units under construction has increased by 19% from Q1 2021 with a total of 3,141 housing units now under construction.
  • 5 new businesses opened their doors in Q2 2021 for a total of 12 in 2021. Another 14 more businesses are anticipated to open later this year.

“Downtown is on the comeback – employees are coming back to the office, new businesses are opening and construction hasn’t stopped.” said Michael Ault, executive director of the Downtown Sacramento Partnership. “We’re certainly looking forward to the return of major events too, from the Golden1 Center to the newly renovated SAFE Credit Union Convention and Performing Arts District, and everywhere else in between.”
