Downtown property owners vote to renew Downtown PBID on April 14

In February, nearly 80 percent of downtown property owners showed their support of the Downtown Sacramento Partnership (DSP) by signing a petition to renew the Property Based Improvement District (PBID) for a new 10-year term. The petition initiated a final deciding property owner vote, required by state law, to establish the assessment district.

The final day for downtown property owners to submit ballots to renew the PBID is April 14. A public hearing at City Council is scheduled for that evening at which time all property owner ballots will be counted. If the DSP achieves a positive vote from over 50% of the property owners, the property assessment will be mandatory for all parcels within the PBID boundaries and the renewed PBID will have a ten-year life January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2025.

“The high approval rating from our owners during the petition campaign is a testament to what DSP has accomplished,” said DSP Board Chair Kipp Blewett. “We’ve been an effective voice for the business community, a leader in economic development in the core, and a nationally-recognized PBID. Owners also recognize that DSP is more critical than ever to ensuring we capitalize on the investments we have made and the opportunity before us.”

For the past two decades, the Downtown Sacramento Partnership has been a driving force downtown’s revitalization. Through its leadership, DSP has been able to galvanize the voices of property owners to push the community to think bigger and set the stage for change.

Renewal of the PBID will allow the DSP to continue laying the foundation for economic vitality of Downtown Sacramento through advocacy, economic development, public safety, and public space management services.
