Election Day 2024: Downtown Sac Guide
Election day is my Super Bowl.
If you’re like me, you’ll want to tune in to the Sacramento Bee’s mayoral debate at 2:00 PM later today (October 23). Sacramento mayoral candidates Dr. Flojaune Cofer and Assemblymember Kevin McCarty will compare their visions for the future of our city.
Here at the Downtown Sacramento Partnership, we’ve got our ears especially perked up to hear about ways to make meaningful and sustainable progress on the homelessness crisis, strategies to create a well-balanced downtown that serves the entire region, and actions that build on the city’s growing momentum toward infill housing production.
The debate will be streaming on the Sacramento Bee’s website and YouTube at 2:00 PM. If you can’t watch live, the debate will air at 7:00 PM on PBS KVIE and then stream on the PBS app. If you’re looking for a good primer, check out ABC10’s “Sacramento’s Future: The Candidates for Mayor,” a comprehensive conversation with the candidates.
Monday, October 21 was the voter registration deadline. If you didn’t register or update your information in time, fear not! You can apply for same day register voter registration when you vote in person or drop off your mail-in ballot at your polling place. Your ballot will be processed and counted once the county elections office verifies your registration.
Election day is Tuesday, November 5, but don’t forget that early voting is already underway. You can find vote-by-mail ballot drop-off locations here. An extra downtown perk: drop off your ballot at the Kings Team Store in DOCO and get a custom “Vote” sticker!
If you want to vote on election day, polls are open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. You can find your polling place here. Don’t forget, you’re entitled to paid time off from work to vote if you do not have sufficient time outside of your working hours to get to the polls. There are some caveats, so read more here and check in with your employer.
And now: making sense of the ballot. Make it easy for yourself and check out these in-depth, non-partisan voting guides from Capital Public Radio and the Sacramento Bee.
Regardless of who wins, we are excited to collaborate with the new wave of city leaders, including the new Mayor and two new Councilmembers!
