Mustache and Cleavage is Alexander Lewis and Amy Kelly—longtime friends, songwriting partners, and two voices that find common ground in harmony. Their American indie folk brings together emotional honesty, memorable melodies, and a sense of humor about life’s less graceful moments.
Drawing inspiration from artists including Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, Neil Young, and Joni Mitchell, the duo writes songs about the things that bring people together—and the things that pull them apart. Love, heartbreak, parenting, and the complications of everyday life all find their way into the music. The lyrics can break your heart, make you laugh, or do a little of both.
On stage, Alexander and Amy build that connection with two voices and an acoustic guitar. Their performances put the songs and stories front and center, with ringing harmonies that give each perspective room to breathe.
The duo released Can of Tears in 2019 and Sheltering Songs in 2020. These two studio EPs introduce the blend of tenderness, bite, and wit that runs through their songwriting. Their song “The Unicorn” appeared in the film What’s the Matter with Gerald?
Their forthcoming full-length album, Lucky You, brings relationship struggles, parenting angst, and breakup songs into the same room. It’s familiar territory for anyone who has loved someone, raised someone, or wondered how things got so complicated—and fertile ground for Mustache and Cleavage’s mix of drama and humor.
