Please join us as we feature the ceramics and paintings of Bahiya Spaulding at ARTHOUSE Gallery, 1021 R Street, in Sacramento. The opening reception and opportunity to meet the artist is Saturday, October 11th, from 5pm-8pm. The exhibition is curated by resident artist, Kate Farrall.
Modern Relics, is an exhibition that explores a world where the past and future merge. Bahiya Spaulding’s latest collection debuts not only a brand new body of work featuring bold paintings, but also ceramic sculptures that are seven times larger than her previous body of work. The raku sculptures feature orange, copper, and gold hues, marked by the combustion process. They appear to have survived an apocalyptic burn, emerging with a new energy of resilience. Each piece holds within it a story waiting to be told. Bahiya’s sculptures and paintings are modern artifacts—bridges between past and future, symbolizing how remnants of our current age may one day become treasured artifacts of a distant time.
She is inspired by the vastness of the unknown, by the ancient and the futuristic. Pieces embody the resilience of those who came before us and the strength of those who continue to carry our stories forward.
Afrofuturism, archaeology, and science fiction all inform her work, allowing her to imagine and create worlds where our ancestral past and imagined futures coexist. The materials Bahiya uses—clay, pigment, natural stone—each hold their own story, connecting viewers to the earth, to time, and to each other. Together, they become modern relics, as if unearthed from a place where history and hope intermingle. Where imagination meets memory. Bahiya Spaulding is a Sacramento, CA artist who is dedicated to creating meaningful, handcrafted works that explore resilience, heritage, and personal transformation. Through ceramics, painting, and expressive narratives, Bahiya’s work invites viewers into a world where art becomes a bridge between past and future, honoring both individual and collective journeys.
In addition to Modern Relics, ARTHOUSE’s 20 resident artists will open their studios to the public for Second Saturday, October 11, from 5:00-8:00 PM.
