Join us for a Chautauqua performance as we Meet President Theodore Roosevelt! This powerful, one-hour performance will feature Michael Romero who portrays the 26th US President. Attendees will experience an engaging three-part performance where they first learn about this trailblazing man, delivered in a first-person format. The audience will then have the opportunity to ask questions first, while fully in character and attire, and then when Michael Romero returns on stage he will address any questions that cannot be fully answered while portraying Theodore Roosevelt.

Meet President Theodore Roosevelt

You will hear about Theodore Roosevelt’s 1903 visit to California – highlighting his commitment to conservation, national unity, and the expanding role of the federal government in preserving natural resources. During the trip, he famously visited Yosemite National Park with naturalist John Muir, where their camping experience helped solidify Roosevelt’s dedication to protecting wilderness areas. This visit directly influenced major conservation policies, including the expansion of national parks and forests, and strengthened the broader Progressive Era goal of responsible environmental stewardship. Additionally, his presence in California symbolized the growing importance of the West in American political and cultural life, reinforcing the idea that the nation’s natural landscapes were a shared heritage worth preserving.

Presented by the Sacramento History Museum, Meet President Theodore Roosevelt will take place in the Celebration Arts Theatre located at 2727 B Street in Sacramento. Tickets for this special Chautauqua evening are $40 for adults, $30 for members, and $20 for youth (recommended for ages 8 and above).
