Male Tears is a synthpop band from Los Angeles California founded by vocalist James Edward in late 2019. The project began as an artistic outlet for Edward who describes Male Tears as the result of a goths love affair with 1980s new wave, blending elements of darkwave, goth rock, EBM, and futurepop into a sound they call Dark Rave.
In 2023, Male Tears released their third album Krypt. This album showcased a mix of darkpop, EBM, and newbeat influences, reflecting the bands retroinspired yet refreshing sound.
By 2024, Male Tears had evolved into a quartet with the new lineup contributing to a dynamic shift in their music and performances. On July 12, 2024, they released their fourth album Paradísco, which embraced Italo disco and New Romantic sounds while maintaining their distinctive style.
Male Tears is known for their immersive visual aesthetic, aiming to create a specific world that represents the sound of their music. This approach draws inspiration from bands like The Cure and Choir Boy, who are known for creating a whole vibe, not just music.
As of December 2024, Male Tears continues to be active in the music scene, performing live shows and engaging with their audience through various platforms. Their commitment to blending nostalgic influences with modern sensibilities has solidified their place in the contemporary synthpop landscape. The band signed with Artoffact Records in 2024 and released the single Little Doll, and a new record will drop in 2025.
