Courtney Daniels had two successful concerts featuring the music and arrangements of Binns Melander in February and October of 2024 at St. Joseph’s Theater in Grass Valley under the sponsorship of Music in the Mountains, a concert organization of the foothills. Courtney is a well-known star of Verismo Opera of Vallejo and has sung roles such Marguerite in Faust by Gounod and Roselionda in Die Fledermaus. She had a successful show just this year called “The Lost One” a sort of Gothic Fairytale with music, dance, and projections.
Binns Melander is a well-known composer and jazz pianist in the area. Way back in the 1960’s he was in the United States Marine Band and was stationed at the White House as Jazz Pianist with a trio for President Lyndon Johnson. He has had many concerts of his music, including three chamber piano concertos performed by Lynn Schugren, a well-known pianist of Northern California for concerts sponsored by the Nevada County Composers Cooperative.
Narmina Sultanova (a concert pianist from Azerbaijan who teaches at Consumnes River College) will also be performing, along with Irina Samarina, a concert violinist who graduated from the Moscow Conservatory and teaches at American River College.
