Sacramento joins the national call, Fall of Freedom, an urgent plea to the arts community to unite against authoritarian forces sweeping across the nation. Our democracy is under threat. Threats to free expression are increasing. Dissent is being criminalized. Institutions and media have been turned into propaganda outlets. This Fall, we are launching a nationwide wave of creative resistance. From November 21–22, 2025, galleries, museums, libraries, comedy clubs, theaters, and concert halls nationwide will host exhibitions, performances, and public events that highlight the urgency of this moment. Fall of Freedom is an open invitation to artists, creators, and communities to participate—and to celebrate the diverse experiences, cultures, and identities that form the fabric of our nation.

Sacramento’s contribution will be a free, two-day event hosted at the Sacramento Poetry Center, located 1719 25th Street, Sacramento and organized by a coalition that includes the Sacramento Poetry Center, Art of Resistance, Sacramento Poderosas, Sacramento Poor People’s Campaign, and local community activists. The event will feature a visual art exhibit and open mics for poets and musicians to share their concerns about the current state of liberty and justice in America, as well as opportunities for activists to speak on the topic. Each day will also include a forum for discussing ideas and solutions.
