Sacramento’s most vibrant and electrifying celebration is back! The City of Trees Parade is bringing the energy of Mardi Gras to the heart of downtown, blending tradition with local flair. If you’re looking for an unforgettable night filled with music, dancing, and dazzling floats, mark your calendars for February 22nd!

What Makes the City of Trees Parade Unique?

Unlike traditional Mardi Gras celebrations, Sacramento’s City of Trees Parade isn’t tied to the official Mardi Gras weekend. Instead, it takes inspiration from the New Orleans-style festivities while making it uniquely Sacramento. With an increasing number of Mardi Gras events happening throughout the region, this parade ensures locals and visitors can celebrate without overlap. Plus, the event emphasizes community engagement, volunteer participation, and showcasing Sacramento’s creative spirit.

When and Where?

The parade kicks off at 5:00 PM, featuring one big wave of revelers moving down Capitol Mall, through the festival grounds, and into Old Sacramento. The parade is expected to reach Old Sacramento between 5:30 and 6:00 PM. But the fun doesn’t stop there! The celebration continues back at the Capitol Mall festival grounds with an electric light dance party featuring live performances from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Getting There: Go Car-Free for a Hassle-Free Experience!

Downtown will be bustling with excitement, so consider these eco-friendly transportation options:

  • Free Public Transit: SacRT is offering complimentary rides to make your trip seamless.
  • Bike Parking: The Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates (SABA) will provide free valet bike parking at the event.
  • Parking Garages: For those driving, affordable and safe parking is available in City of Sacramento parking garages nearby.

What to Expect at the Festival Grounds

While the parade itself is free to watch along the route, entry into the festival grounds requires a $10 presale ticket for adults (kids enter free with RSVP). Proceeds support this volunteer-driven nonprofit event, ensuring its success year after year. Inside, attendees can enjoy:

  • Live entertainment
  • Food and drinks
  • Interactive performances
  • The ultimate Mardi Gras dance party

Can I Bring My Pet?

Due to expected crowds, only officially registered Pet Parade “paw-ticipants” are allowed inside the festival grounds. However, you’re welcome to enjoy the parade outside the festival area with your furry friend!

Get Involved!

While performer applications have closed, there are still plenty of ways to volunteer and be part of the magic! Whether you want to help set up, assist during the parade, or support post-event clean-up, your contribution is invaluable.
