From the website, “The Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Night Market is a celebration of the vibrant AAPI cultures that enrich every aspect of our community – the food we eat, the people we meet, and the region we call home. In 2022, the Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce (SACC) re–envisioned their annual gala and transformed the event into a bustling night market in downtown Sacramento where the entire community can celebrate AAPI Heritage Month in May.”
It amazing that what was once a private gala has turned into the AAPI celebration of the year! It has over 25 and more to be announced food vendors serving locally owned and operated, culturally significant foods. 20+ retail vendors offering anything from jewelry to candles to clothing to shop. For your sipping pleasure there are also four beer and wine vendors.
If the food and shopping experience doesn’t entice you enough, there’s also LIVE MUSIC! There have been some amazing performers in the past but this year’s lineup is so good! Grammy-nominated producer, TOKiMONSTA, is this year’s headliner. As it stands, her list of collaborators includes Anderson Paak, Earthgang, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Yuna, Zhu, Bibi Bourelly, The Drums, Van Jess and more. She has gone on to remix artists such as Beck, Duran Duran, Portugal the Man, Maroon 5, Odesza, Ólafur Arnalds, and more.
Along with TOKiMONSTA, P-Lo is performing a set at AAPI Night Market! He is a multi-platinum songwriter/producer has become instrumental as one of the architects of sound for the West Coast. The Filipino-American rapper is a clear example that sticking to your sound and doubling down on yourself makes you irreplaceable.
This market is made to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islanders during AAPI Heritage Month, so I hope you can check it out and celebrate the culture with food, vendors, and music!
