Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink Construction Begins

(October 7, 2019) – Construction of the Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink, the region’s oldest and most beloved outdoor rink, began today on Monday October 7, 2019 at 7th and K streets in downtown Sacramento. Located steps from Golden 1 Center and Downtown Commons, excellent visual opportunities for reporting are available as ice rink construction transforms the iconic plaza recently renamed Ali Youssefi Square into the holiday destination downtown Sacramento has celebrated for nearly three decades.

Open daily November 1, 2019 through January 20, 2020, the Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink presented by Dignity Health offers something for everyone with a unique lineup of special events:

GRAND OPENING: Friday, November 1
10 a.m. – Ribbon cutting ceremony including third-grade students from William Land Elementary, Sacramento City Councilmember Steve Hansen, presenting sponsor Dignity Health, and Downtown Sacramento Partnership’s Michael Ault. Following students will take to the ice to skate free courtesy of Dignity Health.  12 – 10 p.m. – Open to the public for $2 skating all day.

Saturday, Nov. 9: Princess & Superhero Day presented by SacRT – 12–2 p.m. The destination for families looking to celebrate their love of fairytale princesses and comic book superheroes, visitors are encouraged to dress up as their favorite princess or superhero.

Sundays, Nov. 10, Dec. 8, Jan. 12: Crafting Kindness presented by Dignity Health – 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Celebrate kindness on 2nd Sundays and create of a unique, interactive art piece to share with friends and family.

Monday, Nov. 11: Veterans Day – 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Active Military and Veterans with valid ID skate free all day.

Saturday, Nov. 16: Skate with Republic FC presented by Sacramento Republic FC – 1–4 p.m. Share the #MLS2SAC spirit with Republic FC Street Team, season ticket holders, supporters and the community for a fun, family-friendly afternoon of skating from the first to final whistle.

Wednesday, Nov. 20: Drag Queens on Ice presented by Outword – 6–9 p.m. Take to the ice with your favorite queens while raising money for LGBTQ-friendly charities.

Tuesday, Dec. 3: Skate It Forward presented by Dignity Health – 2– 9 p.m. 100% of skating admissions will be donated to Sacramento Self Help Housing on the international day of giving known as #GivingTuesday

Thursday, Dec. 5: DOCO Disco presented by Downtown Commons, 7–9 p.m. Glide, twirl and spin to your personal soundtrack of skating tunes courtesy of Downtown Commons.

Saturday, Dec. 14: Grinch Day presented by Xfinity,12–3 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 15: Kids Day presented by Sacramento Kings, 12–2 p.m. Kick off the holiday season with the Sacramento Kings and kid-favorite, Slamson! Bring out the family for a day of fun and ice with the Sacramento Kings.

Sunday, Dec. 22: Ugly Sweater Party with HOF is Better, 6–10 p.m. Skate into the 2nd annual Ugly Sweater Crawl at downtown at the Ice Rink and save $2 when you skate in your ugliest sweater style!

Sunday, Jan. 5: Sports Day presented by Western Health Advantage, 12–2 p.m. Enjoy the last days of the holiday break bragging for your favorite team! Wear a jersey, other clothing, and/or some accessories of your favorite sports team and take a spin on the ice.
