Dr. Drew to Keynote 2020 State of Downtown

(January 8, 2020) — Preparations for one of the most anticipated kick-off events of the year are underway by the Downtown Sacramento Partnership. The 22nd Annual State of Downtown breakfast presented by Stantec on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, will celebrate Sacramento’s thriving urban core, highlighting the projects and amenities recently completed and preview exciting new revitalization initiatives. The program featuring an address by Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg will also host a keynote by Dr. Drew Pinsky, known to television and radio audiences as Dr. Drew, exploring the pathology of the state’s growing homeless crisis.

“State of Downtown is a special program,” said Michael Ault, executive director of Downtown Sacramento Partnership. “We’ve created a venue where our region’s leaders can explore the ideas and initiatives that will give our downtown a strategic advantage and leverage investment for real benefits for the entire region. As we reflect on what we are looking forward to in 2020 and beyond, it’s also important to look at the bigger picture and complex issues like chronic homelessness.”

Dr. Drew is a board-certified physician and an addiction medicine specialist and prominent media personality who more recently has become a passionate voice on the contributing factors to chronic homelessness, and how health care providers can help. A much sought after guest on the talk show and news circuits, Dr. Drew has evaluated the pathology of mental illness, addiction, and homelessness.

In addition to maintaining an outpatient medical practice and an inpatient and critical care presence at medical hospitals throughout Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley, Dr. Drew served over two decades as Medical Director for Chemical Dependency Services at Las Encinas Hospital, a free-standing psychiatric facility in Pasadena, California. His work as a doctor of internal medicine/addiction specialist and broadcaster has imbued him with the rare ability to examine issues through the lenses of practical experience, scientific evidence, and pragmatism.

Today, Dr. Drew is a Diplomat of the American Board of Addiction Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine. He was appointed to the Alpha Omega Honor Medical Society and has a Fellowship with the American College of Physicians (FACP) and is also host of multiple podcasts including: “The Adam & Drew Podcast,” “This Life,” and “Weekly Infusion.”

Produced by Downtown Sacramento Partnership, State of Downtown attracts an audience of more than 900 business professionals and community leaders. State of Downtown will feature an address by Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg and keynote by Dr. Drew, as well as a very special JVance Stewart Award for Community Service presentation to Hope Cooperative (formally TLCS) presented by Sacramento County Supervisor Phil Serna.

State of Downtown will be held at the Hyatt Regency, located at 1209 L Street in Sacramento, on January 21, 2020, at 8 a.m. Tickets range from $50 (gallery seating) to $125 (includes breakfast) and are available at DowntownSac.org/SOD2020.
