Concerts in the Park: Turning up the volume for 25 years

With a history as Sacramento’s longest-running outdoor music festival, Concerts in the Park (CIP) returns for its 25th season on May 6, 2016 with an exciting new brand that captures the energy pulsing through downtown, and an impressive lineup of nationally touring artists and the region’s greatest musical talents. The free summer music festival launches at Cesar Chavez Plaza on May 6 and continues each Friday night from 5 to 9 pm through July 29 (note: there is no concert on July 1).

Over the last 25 years, CIP has grown into a summer staple with the 12-week season drawing more attendees than City of Trees, TBD Fest and Aftershock – Sacramento’s three largest music festivals. In addition to attracting thousands of downtown visitors, CIP partners with local bars to increase circulation throughout the district after the concerts end. CIP’s After Party promotion leverages traffic generated by the music festival and encourages 5,500 weekly concertgoers to visit participating bars after the show.

CIP-LogoPrimary-02To celebrate 25 years of “turning up the volume” in downtown Sacramento, CIP got a new look and feel this year. Designed by Honey Agency, the new brand pays tribute to CIP’s home for the past 25 years – Cesar Chavez Plaza in downtown Sacramento. The brand pulls in art deco elements from the park, along with representations of iconic downtown buildings. If you take a look at the new logo you’ll notice the shapes at the bottom pull in elements of the Sacramento Public Library but also appear as a record. Additionally, the shape representing the Renaissance Tower doubles as a microphone and the Wong Center is reminiscent of a headstock on a guitar.
