Assemblymember Kevin McCarty launches book donation drive for Read Across America Day
Dear Friends,
Today is Read Across America Day! I’m celebrating literacy this year is by launching a book donation drive to benefit migrant education programs. Currently, there are over 200,000 migrant students that attend California schools. Many of these students encounter numerous education challenges resulting from frequent moves and economic hardship.
The book drive starts today and culminates on March 31st, Cesar Chavez Day of Service and Learning, with a community celebration at the Avid Reader bookstore.
Please consider making a donation of new or gently used children’s books (bilingual preferred) to benefit local migrant education programs. Visit the Avid Reader for great book ideas!
