AMGEN Tour of California begins on May 10

Sacramento is once again the official starting point for the 2015 AMGEN Tour of California. The first of many road closures and parking restrictions in downtown will start on Friday, May 8. Business owners, employees and visitors are encouraged to plan ahead for this year’s AMGEN Tour of California bike race on Sunday, May 10.

The official AMGEN Tour of California 10th anniversary celebration will take place on Friday, May 8 at the west steps of the State Capitol. As part of the celebration, there will be live music, kid’s activities, farm-to-fork concessions, plus much more.

Opening ceremonies will start at 10:35 am on Sunday, May 10 at the State Capitol. The race will officially start at 10:50 am when riders head west on L Street, turn left on 9th Street and then right on the eastbound lanes of Capitol Mall heading across the Tower Bridge and out of city limits. The race will conclude at approximately 3:30 pm when riders return to the State Capitol.

The event will entail multiple rolling road closures surrounding the State Capitol along with extensive parking restrictions.

Downtown circuit street closures

To facilitate the set-up of the downtown circuit for both the AMGEN Tour of California and the Lifestyle Festival, the following streets will be closed to traffic from 9:00 am on Friday, May 8 through midnight on Sunday, May 10: 10th Street from N to L streets.

Beginning on Saturday, May 9, at 7:00 am, L Street will be closed from 9th Street to 12th Street.

Beginning Sunday, May 10, from approximately 7:00 am to 11:00 pm, the following street will be closed for finish line setup: L Street from 9th Street to 15th Street.

The following streets will be closed for the circuit starting at 9:30 am on Sunday, May 10 and will reopen at approximately 4:00 pm:

  • 9th Street from L to N
  • N Street from 9th to 15th
  • 15th Street from N to P
  • P Street from 15th to 18th
  • 18th Street from L to P
  • L Street from 15th to 18th

On-street parking will be limited

Before and during the event, on-street parking downtown will be limited as many parking spaces will be posted “no parking” until Sunday evening. Vehicles parked in restricted areas will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Beginning Friday at 6:00 am through Sunday at midnight, parking will be prohibited on L Street, from 10th to 12th; 10th from N to K; L from 10th to 9th; 11th & 12th from N to O; 13th from N to P; 15th from N to L.

Nearby garage parking will be available

Starting on Saturday morning, May 9, until 11:00 pm, Sunday, May 10, 10th Street which is one-way between J and L streets will become a two-way street to facilitate parking at the Capitol Garage. Parking Services highly recommends using the City Hall Garage at 10th and I streets, Memorial Garage at 14th and H streets, Old Sacramento Garage at 3rd and I streets, the Downtown Plaza West Garage at L and 3rd street, the Downtown Plaza East Garage with entrances on J and L streets and the Tower Bridge garage off Capitol.
