The Sacramento Jewish Film Festival, a program of the Jewish Federation of the Sacramento Region, has presented the best films related to Jews and Judaism since 1997. This year, we will again be hybrid: 10 films will be presented only at The Crest Theater in Downtown Sacramento, and 14 more will be streamed via our on-line portal for the following two weeks.
This year’s festival will include a wide variety of films and related experiences: comedies, dramas, documentaries, and live Zoom chats with filmmakers. The festival will be presenting films from all over the world.
Don’t miss our Saturday night centerpiece film Bad Shabbos, about an New York City Shabbat dinner gone wrong. Filmmaker Dan Robbins will join in for a conversation after the film.
The annual family-friendly film Call Me Dancer features a Mumbai hip-hop dancer who has a chance encounter with a curmudgeonly Israeli ballet master. Following the film, we will be treated to a live performance of dancers from McClatchy High School’s Performing Arts Academy.
The Closing Night film Sabbath Queen features the life of Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie and his quest to creatively and radically reinvent religion and ritual. After the film, we will be joined by a panel of local Rabbis to lead a discussion about the film.
The festival promises to amuse, entertain, inspire and educate — while providing opportunities to share this experience together.
