The artwork of Dave Piches will be featured in the exhibit, “Planscapes” at ARTHOUSE Gallery.
An architect by profession, Dave Piches art has been driven by his intrigue with the plan view as an abstract image. The works are Pen & Acrylic paint on golden-toned tracing paper – a favorite tool of architects for tracing and designing. The pen sketch is at the heart of each image.
Borrowing from his interest in the way buildings are put together, Piches looks at the manner in which buildings as shelters express a world of roofed wonders that often are not seen by most who only take in the visions of buildings from street level. It was natural to concentrate on cities and buildings with interesting roof patterns. French buildings offered a large variety of undulating, shaped roofs for interpretation, while many other urban environments display vast amounts of less interesting flat planes that are still are ripe for artistic exploration. These works incorporate shade and shadow to define the massing and shapes of buildings that are only viewed from above. The use of pattern, color and transparency are utilized to show how these structures connect with each other and to their surrounds. “Planscapes” explores the beauty in the arrangement of buildings in harmony with each other and within their immediate surroundings.
In addition to the exhibit, the ARTHOUSE on R’s resident artists will open their studios for Second Saturday June 8, 2024 in the historical R. Street Corridor.
