Historical performance, artifact unveiling, and reception honoring two women who shaped California’s fight for freedom—Mary Brown & Mary Ellen Pleasant  

Join us for the unveiling of a new artifact coming to the California Museum's “Women Inspire” exhibit! See and hear the story of the silver-plated chalice gifted to Mary Brown—the widow of famed abolitionist John Brown—in the 1880s by a group of formerly enslaved people, honoring the Brown family's efforts in the fight for freedom.

Learn the extraordinary stories of Mary Brown and Mary Ellen Pleasant—two remarkable women whose lives were deeply connected to the fight for freedom and equality.
Historical performance by Emmy Award-winner Dr. Susheel Bibbs, celebrating Mary Ellen Pleasant's legacy as the “Mother of Civil Rights in California”
