Downtown Commons (DOCO) to Serve as Communal Gathering Place for Sacramento Region Punch Bowl Social, Pour Society and Sauced Provide Unique Dining and Entertainment Experiences

Sacramento, Calif. – Today, the Sacramento Kings and JMA Ventures, LLC announced the mixed-use project inclusive of Golden 1 Center would be branded Downtown Commons (DOCO). DOCO can also be found via “DOCOSacramento” on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.

“From world-class art and entertainment to innovative restaurants and retail, Downtown Commons will serve as Sacramento’s cornerstone – its common ground,” said Sacramento Kings Owner and Chairman Vivek Ranadivé. “It’s where neighbors, families and visitors will gather to share experiences year-round.”

September 16 – #916Day – provides a unique opportunity for Sacramentans to celebrate the city, and today’s DOCO launch signifies the next chapter in Downtown Sacramento’s evolution.

DOCO will showcase entertainment, restaurant and apparel offerings to the Sacramento region. In addition, the over three acre plaza will be an exciting civic space for people to gather and enjoy outdoor concerts, fresh markets, farm-to-fork favorites, and outdoor activities ranging from holiday ice skating to morning yoga to movies after dark. The plaza will also feature Jeff Koons’ Coloring Book sculpture, the first publicly displayed Koons sculpture owned by a municipality.

DOCO’s entitlements include up to 1.5 million square feet of dynamic mixed use development. The initial phase of development features 128,000 square feet of office space, 300,000 square feet of retail, a 250-room boutique hotel managed by Kimpton Hotels, and up to 50 residential units. Foundation work on the garage and mixed-use tower is ongoing, and renovation of existing retail will start in fall 2015.

The Kings and JMA also announced the first round of tenants: Punch Bowl Social, Pour Society and Sauced BBQ and Spirits. The restaurants represent the first locations in Sacramento for all three and Punch Bowl Social and Pour Society’s first in California. Cushman & Wakefield is handling the retail leasing for DOCO.

“We’re excited to bring these innovative concepts to Sacramento’s urban core,” said JMA Ventures, LLC CEO Todd Chapman. “Punch Bowl Social, Pour Society and Sauced BBQ and Spirits are strong additions to the Sacramento community and reinforce our intention to create a unique retail destination that complements our region’s culture and lifestyle.”

A 2014 third-party analysis estimated that the combined economic impact of the downtown arena and surrounding development will generate 4,000 permanent jobs and $11.5 billion in economic activity for the Sacramento region over the expected 35-year lifespan of the arena and surrounding development. Golden 1 Center will also help attract 1.6 million new visitors to downtown Sacramento each year, which is expected to help generate more than $8.5 million in sales tax and approximately $867,000 in transient occupancy taxes each year.

Additionally, eight lanes of bowling, a dart lounge, shuffle board, ping-pong, billiards, and cornhole round out the leisure sports offerings. “When this project came to our attention last year and after learning about how strong the community rallies around their city, my first response was, ‘yes’. The ‘Farm to Fork capital of America’ is a no brainer for Punch Bowl Social”, said Robert Thompson, Founder and CEO of Punch Bowl Social. “Punch Bowl Social is characterized by urban-grit and west coast sensibilities, a perfect piece to the growing Sacramento puzzle. When you combine Punch Bowl Social’s multi-faceted scratch kitchen, craft beverage and old-school gaming elements with Sacramento, the raw entertainment power of the NBA and the Kings, that’s a winning setup.”

POUR SOCIETY: Pour Society is a modern interpretation of the classic American pub. The restaurant will utilize locally sourced ingredients paired with boutique wines, American craft draft and bottled beer and handcrafted specialty cocktails to create a lively and inspired culinary environment. A Northern California resident and two-time James Beard Award winner, Chef Bradley Ogden will design, develop and execute the upcoming restaurant. This is the third Pour Society location, following Las Vegas and Houston.

  • Location: Centrally located in the main plaza of DOCO

“I’m thrilled at the opportunity to craft a restaurant that reflects the best of Sacramento’s dynamic culture,” said Pour Society Chef and Restaurateur Bradley Ogden. “As a resident of Northern California, I’m also honored to join Sacramento’s talented network of chefs and restaurateurs.”

SAUCED BBQ and SPIRITS: Sauced BBQ and Spirits provides excellent food, great drinks, and an unmatched Southern charm and ambiance. This is the third location, following Livermore, Calif. and Petaluma, Calif.

  • Location: 7th and K Street
  • Square footage: 9,100
