It’s Game Time

On July 25, Judge Tim Frawley removed the last legal hurdle preventing construction of the Entertainment and Sports Center (ESC) when he denied a request to enjoin Sacramento Basketball Holdings, the King’s ownership group, and the City from moving forward with the project.

As chronicled by The Sacramento Bee columnist Marcos Breton, the lawsuit against the city was filed by the Sacramento Housing Alliance, Loaves & Fishes, the Environmental Council of Sacramento, and the Democratic Socialists of America’s Sacramento chapter after the demand for $40 million for affordable housing was not met.

The lawsuit alleged that the City’s Environmental Impact Report (EIR) did not properly consider and mitigate the environmental impacts of the ESC construction, but the Court rejected this contention.  Fortunately, even though the legal roadblocks delayed initiation of construction, the project is expected to be completed in time.

With this news, comes the start of demolition and construction. Demolition began on August 1. For more information, click here.
